The objective of this study was to determine the phenology and thermal requirements of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Riesling Renano, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Barbera, Malvasia Nera and Syrah. The experiment was conducted at EPAGRI Experimental Station, located in São Joaquim, Santa Catarina State (28°17?39?S; 49°55?56?W, altitude 1,415m a.s.l.). The phenological stages evaluated were budbreak, full bloom, veraison and maturity, between 2010/2011 and 2015/2016. Thermal requirements were calculated by growing degree-days, considering base temperature of 10°C. Among white varieties, Sauvignon Blanc presented the shortest cycle (195 days) and Riesling Renano had the longest cycle (206 days). Among red varieties Merlot presented the shortest cycle (209 days) and Malvasia Nera had the longest cycle (225 days). The average heat summation for the white varieties was 1,274 GDD, while for the red varieties was 1,387 GDD. Varieties better adapted to areas of high altitude (1,400 m a.s.l.), have intermediate cycle, lasting from September until early April. The varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling Renano, Viognier and Merlot are better adapted to high altitude conditions of Santa Catarina State. The other varieties showed adaptation problems, like early budbreak (Pinot Grigio) and very late ripening (Barbera, Malvasia Nera and Syrah). |
